Patrice Rushen “Forget Me Nots”

Patrice Rushen "Forget Me Nots" (1982)

Originally written off by record executives as a flop, Patrice Rushen’s “Forget Me Nots,” from her seventh album Straight From The Heart, would go on to enormous ‘crossover’ success, climbing to the top of Billboard’s Top 40 (# 23), R&B (# 5) and Dance (# 2) charts. Some failure, no? The music video–which many have never seen–is on youtube, and we are glad to be able to add it to our library.

George Michael would score a huge hit with “Fastlove,” which relies heavily on a sample from Rushen’s original.
